Step back in time as you visit the Miners' Village. Located next to the Museum, these historic, wood-framed buildings tell the story of life in a coal-mining town.

The Miners' home is designed to illustrate two separate time periods, the 1850's and turn of the century. This charming home paints a picture of mining family life as it was back then, complete with authentic artifacts and architecture.

The replica Company Store was based on an actual home in Sydney Mines which had long been a store of the General Mining Association. On-site interpreters will be glad to show you the many artifacts of the mining general store of that period.

The quaint and beautiful Miners' Village Restaurant, with its early-style furniture, large brick fireplace, plastered walls and kerosene lamps, evokes an earlier age. Choose from a wide selection of fresh fish, local chowders and fruit dishes, served with Cape Breton hospitality!

In 1873, there were eight coal companies operating in Cape Breton. The miners were paid from 80 cents to $1.50 per day and boys were paid 65 cents.
